Topping D50s is a high-end USB DAC equipped with line out, optical and coaxial outputs, as well as Bluetooth 5.0 with LDAC support. It is also fitted with a 0.96-inch OLED display. It uses a second generation XMOS XU208 USB interface, 2 ESS ES9038Q2M Sabre DAC chips, 2 OPA1612 and 1 LME49720 operational amplifiers by Texas Instruments and custom Thesycon drivers that provide the support for DSD512 (native) and PCM 32bit / 768 kHz.
Topping D50s earned Hi-Res Audio Wireless certificate and supports Sony LDAC technology. Qualcomm CSR8675 chipset fitted inside D50s is a premium tier single-chip solution delivering high quality wireless audio performance. Bluetooth v.5.0 offers integrated support for aptX, aptX HD, Active Noise Cancellation and Qualcomm TrueWireless stereo as well as aptX LL, LDAC, MP3, AAC and SBC codecs and protocols. CSR8675 supports sampling rates up to 192kHz/24bit. These specs guarantee highest quality wireless audio playback currently available on the market.
Topping D50s THD+N is as low as 0.00025% and SIAND is 112dB.
The ES9028Q2M SABRE Reference DAC by ESS is a very high-performance, 32-bit, Stereo audio D/A converter designed for audiophile-grade equipment such as Topping D50s. Using the critically acclaimed ESS patented 32-bit HyperStream™ DAC architecture and Time Domain Jitter Eliminator, the ES9028Q2M SABRE Reference DAC delivers a DNR of up to 129dB and THD+N of –120dB, a performance level that will satisfy the most demanding audio enthusiasts. Its 32-bit HyperStream™ architecture handles up to 32-bit 384kHz PCM data via I2S, DSD-22.6MHz data as well as a mono mode for highest performance applications. Both synchronous and ASRC (asynchronous sample rate conversion) modes are supported. Topping D50s uses one ES9028Q2M SABRE DAC per channel, meaning that it benefits from unprecedented dynamic range and ultra-low distortion, unmatched audio clarity free from input clock jitter and distortion-free signal processing.
Topping D50s uses XU208, a second generation USB interface from XMOS. XU208 chip is a representative of the xCORE-200 Series by XMOS and is a 32-bit mulitcore micro-controller characterized by its low latency and timing determinism. Unlike conventional micro-controllers, XU208 is capable of executing multiple real-time tasks simultaneously and communicate between tasks using a high speed network. XU208 chip supports sampling rates of up to 32bit 768kHz in PCM and up to DSD512 Native. The D50s also has customized Thesycon drivers (for Windows 7 and above) to improve the support of native DSD.
The D50s benefits from the state-of-art sound processing thanks to Texas Instruments’ operational amplifiers: two OPA1612 SoundPlus and one LME49720 that ensure a clear and lossless signal transmission. The OPA1612 SoundPlus are high-performance, bipolar-input audio operational amplifiers characterized by their superior sound quality, very low noise density and ultra low distortion of 0.000015% @ 1kHz. They offer rail-to-rail output swing to within 600 mV with a 2-kΩ load, which increases headroom and maximizes dynamic range. These devices also have a high output drive capability of ±30 mA. They also feature completely independent circuitry for lowest crosstalk and freedom from interactions between channels, even when overdriven or overloaded.
TI LME49720 op amp on the other hand is a ultra-low distortion, low noise, high slew rate op amp chip optimized for high performance and high fidelity. It combines advanced leading-edge process technology with state-of-the-art circuit design, this op amp delivers superior audio signal amplification for an outstanding audio performance. It also combines an extremely low voltage noise with low THD+N (0.00003%) to easily satisfy the most demanding audio enthusiasts. The LME49720 is installed in an op amp socket that allows DIYers to swap the it to experiment and achieve a different sound signature.
Topping D50s is enclosed in an uni-body housing machined from a solid block of aluminum that provides superior mechanical strength and anti-interference ability, as well as natural passive heat radiation to prevent it from overheating.
D50s’ front panel and interface are fool-proof. Just one button and a nifty joystick is enough to control all its settings, including turning on/off, auto on/off, volume control, mute, input selection, screen brightness and PCM filter settings. To make it even more convenient to use, it comes with a handy remote control that allow users to control the D50s.
Back panel of D50s is fitted with stereo RCA output and USB, coaxial and optical inputs, as well as a Bluetooth antenna.
While Topping D50s is a great piece of equipment on it’s own, it is also a representative of Topping’s “50” line also composed of the Topping A50 headphone amplifier and Topping P50 power supply making these three products a complete and very efficient system. All three have CNC aluminum uni-body cases in a consistent visual design. Topping A50 is an elegant and compact, high-performance desktop headphone amplifier / pre-amplifier that can easily drive all kinds of headphones, as well as active speakers making it a perfect partner for D50s, while P50 power supply will provide an extremely clean power to both of these devices, allowing them to perform at their full potential.
