FAQ

An integrated amplifier combines a preamplifier (which selects and controls input sources) and a power amplifier (which drives your speakers) in one unit. You need one if you're using passive speakers — the amplifier provides the power the speakers need to play. It also gives you volume control and multiple inputs for connecting different sources (CD, TV, streamer, turntable).
Integrated amplifiers in Bangladesh range from BDT 18,000 for reliable entry-level stereo models to BDT 200,000+ for audiophile-grade designs. The BDT 25,000–60,000 range offers excellent performance for a typical Bangladeshi living room hi-fi system.
For a typical-sized Bangladeshi living room (15–25 sqm) with bookshelf speakers, 40–80 watts per channel is more than sufficient. For floor-standing speakers or larger rooms, 80–150W is ideal. Note: speaker sensitivity matters more than raw wattage — a 93dB sensitive speaker sounds louder from 50W than an 86dB speaker from 100W.
Many integrated amplifiers include a built-in phono stage for direct turntable connection. Check the specifications — look for "phono input" or "MM phono stage." If your amplifier doesn't have a built-in phono stage, you'll need a separate phono preamp between the turntable and amplifier. We stock both and can advise on compatibility.
An integrated amplifier is a 2-channel (stereo) device optimized purely for music. An AV receiver handles 5.1, 7.1, or more channels for home theatre surround sound, includes HDMI switching, and Dolby/DTS processing. For pure music listening, an integrated amplifier is the superior choice. For a home theatre that also plays music, an AV receiver is more versatile. We carry both at Gears For Ears.
