The Softears Volume S is a hybrid in-ear monitor built around one earphone with two switchable sound signatures, using a bus-impedance tuning concept to change the overall system response rather than just individual frequencies.
Two Tuning Modes, One Earphone
A built-in switch changes the Volume S between Pop and Classical modes. One mode brings the high frequencies forward for a vivid, energetic sound; the other delivers a more balanced, fuller presentation. Rather than filtering specific frequency bands, the switch changes bus impedance, altering the whole system response in a single, seamless step.
Driver Iteration: Two Independent Balanced Armatures
Volume S upgrades on the prior-generation Volume by replacing its composite high/mid unit with two independent balanced armature drivers, each with its own output pathway, aimed at clearer treble and fuller mids.
Active + Passive Dynamic Driver Bass Combo
Bass comes from a combination of an active 10mm silicone-diaphragm dynamic driver with a titanium dome, paired with a 6mm passive dynamic driver using a wool-based diaphragm inverted at the dome position of the active driver. The wool membrane is intended to absorb unwanted vibration outside the bass band while the titanium dome adds rigidity, aiming for bass that stays deep and controlled rather than boomy.
Artistic Faceplate
The shell combines medical-grade resin, aluminum alloy and forged carbon fiber. The faceplate's carbon fiber weave reflects light differently depending on the angle, giving each earpiece a distinct shimmer.
Braided Paracord Cable
The stock cable uses a 60-strand, high-purity oxygen-free copper core in an upgraded, ultra-soft braided paracord sleeve, paired with custom 10-micron, ultra-dense gold-plated interchangeable 3.5mm and 4.4mm plugs and a 2-pin 0.78mm connector for stable, low-oxidation contact.

- UC Eartips — soft and comfortable for long-term wear, with a better ear canal seal, clear treble and solid bass.
- B-Type Eartips — Softears' own balanced reference tips, used internally throughout the Volume S tuning and development process.
