Celest Gumiho Review

Planar earphones are all in the rage these days and @Kinera Celest Gumiho are one of the better ones. With a price tag under Tk 5000, its performance surprised us.

Gumiho uses a proprietary SPD Planar driver + 1 BA hybrid architecture. It uses a plastic shell, which does not come off as cheap. We found the fit to be comfortable, and suitable for long listening sessions. The stock cable is quite good and feels premium for a budget earphone, but the eartips quality leaves much to be desired. We found the JVC Spiral Dots++ a much better pairing with the Gumiho. They also provided a storage bag and a cleaning brush with the package.

With an impedance of just 9 Ohm, the Gumho can be driven with anything. As with most planar IEMS, the Gumiho excels in instrument separation. The imaging is also quite spot-on compared to the price. The soundstage is also commendable when used with the Spiral Dots++ (any wide bore tips should provide a similar performance). The bass performance of this earphone is solid and well-bodied. It provides a punch which many IEMS in this range lack. The mids are natural and have ample texture, another quality which is often missing from budget IEMS. Both male and female vocals sounded musical, although the lower mids are a tad bit recessed. Treble on the Gumiho is a bit recessed, giving it an inoffensive tuning. There is no shimmer or sparkle or "treble air". This is the only frequency range where it left us wanting a bit more, but not by much.

The Gumiho gets a solid recommendation from us in this price bracket, especially for those looking to dip their feet in planar IEMS. Even with its lacking, it delivers a solid and well-rounded performance compared to other IEMs in this range.
